VALIdation of Decision support models for rAdioThErapy
Most published radiotherapy outcome models are never tested on patients they have not seen. VALIDATE is a multi-institutional consortium of 27 investigators in ten countries that runs rigorous external validations of published outcome and decision-support models: the analysis plan is locked before any data are touched, every model is tested at three or more institutions independent of its developer, and both discrimination and calibration are reported. The code travels; patient data stay where they were collected. Dr. Deasy chairs the consortium; Laura Cella (CNR, Naples) co-chairs.
